Mango honey comes from mango (Mangifera indica), a tropical tree related to the poison ivy family. Mango is widely known for its fleshy, sweet fruit. Originally from India, the tree was disseminated when Emperor Ashoka had mango groves planted alongside his kingdom’s trails to feed travelers. Currently, we enjoy several kinds of mango in the Dominican Republic. Mango blooms in tiny white flowers, attracting bees from approximately April until June. In our yards, bees also enjoy the fallen fruit and the pollen, even another remark of the generosity of this tree.
